How to Ask Your Employees to Give

Asking for donations is the most important step of your workplace giving campaign. The number one reason most people don’t give is because they are not asked, so ensure every employee has an opportunity to make a decision.

Make it Fun

Unite your employees by holding a campaign kick-off, inviting nonprofit speakers, hosting special events, or coordinating lunch-and-learns or interactive sponsored breaks. People give to people so energize your campaign with personal asks.

Reassure Giving is a Choice

Giving is a personal choice and some employees may choose to not participate financially. Encourage employees to get involved in other ways by volunteering to support the campaign or community, coordinating a donation drive, or raising awareness about a cause that matters to them.

Involve Company Leadership

The best asks often come from peers or department heads, and your company leadership can set the example by making early contributions (pacesetters). While a personal request to contribute at campaign events is more persuasive, promoting campaign support is critical to a successful campaign. Consider highlighting leadership support or endorsements in your campaign communications.

Explain Giving Options

It is important to explain how donors can give and allow employees to give in various capacities, like donating via payroll deduction or credit card, PTO, volunteering, or even through spare change round ups. We provide multiple ways for employees to communicate their intended pledge: a customizable online platform is recommended, a simple Give Now page, text to give, fillable PDF, or paper pledge form.
